Shared Entity Management Infrastructure, John Chapman and Anne Washington
In January 2020, OCLC began work on a two-year project (https://oc.lc/sharedentitymgmt) funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The project is designed to provide critical linked data infrastructure for libraries and other cultural heritage institutions by focusing on publishing millions of entity descriptions for creative works and persons, and providing infrastructure by which they can be maintained and enhanced.

OCLC staff John Chapman and Anne Washington will present an update on the project, progress towards its goals, and lessons learned throughout.

Sustainability and Load Distribution of Authoritative Data Lookup Services, E. Lynette Rayle and Greg Delisle
As part of the Linked Data for Production grant, the presenters have been maintaining an authoritative data lookup service operating over cached versions of the data. They are looking at ways to maintain this service beyond the life of the grant. There are several challenges including implementing a process for keeping the cache up to date, hosting billions of triples in the cache, the processing costs of creating a performant indexing scheme over the cache, and maintaining a lookup service that is always available. An early part of this work was retooling the authority indexing and search mechanisms to minimize the resources required to deploy a given authority search function. The presenters will discuss their experience using Docker to create containers that make it easier for other institutions to access this work and set up their own or shared lookup services.  They will also look at Amazon Web Services (AWS) templates that are included with the container that perform many of the steps for deploying to AWS.
